Summer Show
Summer Show

When the Scout Hall doors open at 2.30pm on Saturday 19 July, visitors will be greeted by a riot of colour, scent and a very friendly welcome as the Summer Show gets underway. Its success depends on people like you entering though!  Masses of schedules have been picked up over the past few months, so please do turn your curiosity into entries - veggies, flowers, baking, artistry, craft and photographs.

If you haven’t yet got a schedule you can still pick one up at Sew Inspired in the village or the full programme is on our website  (for website address see below: once you’re into the website, click on the three lines in the top right hand corner of our Home Page, then Events, the Show programme pdf link is on this page).

Get your photographs to us by 6th July if you'd like us to get them printed - showcommittee@mayfieldhorticulturalsociety.org.uk.  If you are entering other items in the Show, please bring them to the Scout Hall on the day, after 9.00 but before 10.45, as judging will commence at 11.00.  Never entered the Show before?  Don’t worry! There will be people on hand to show you what to do.

Young people - how are your sunflowers doing? Don't forget to measure them, photograph them and send in those entries, get drawing, painting, sewing and thinking about your miniature garden.

So we'll see you on the 19th July to enjoy the grand display and where we can also enjoy those lovely tea and cakes from the Friends of Mayfield Primary School.  Check out our brand new website for more details or get in touch if you have any questions 01435 872163.

OUTING TO GREAT DIXTER

On a rather damp morning of Wednesday 11 June, a group of 25 people visited Great Dixter by car or minibus and were given an hour’s tour by Michael Wachter, one of the senior gardeners and whom members will remember has previously given us brilliant talks in Mayfield on propagation and foraging.

He gave a fascinating insight into the type of planting used and how decisions were made about future designs. His knowledge and enthusiasm were evident and his presentation really interesting.  The gardens were looking stunning.  Everyone was suitably inspired!

Afterwards most people had delicious refreshments in the cafe and the sun came out.  There was a chance to further explore and look in the beautiful house.  Some took the opportunity to buy plants from the well stocked nursery or be tempted by items in the shop!   Claire Montagu
