Annual Plant Sale

This annual, much anticipated event is your chance to buy locally grown plants at great prices! There will be a range of annuals for the garden, pots and hanging baskets; perennials from the gardens of Mayfield villagers; a range of vegetables; herbs and loads of different tomatoes, including lots of heritage varieties. There will be plenty of advice on hand as well.
All the usual bedding favourites will be there, such as zonal geraniums, lobelia, antirrhinums, nicotiana, impatiens (busy lizzie), cosmos, verbena, sweet peas and more, plus we have a new ‘cutting garden’ section this year, with special corncockles, cornflowers plus more cosmos and verbena…
In the vegetable section we’ll have all sorts of beans, Sue’s famous tomatoes - 22 different varieties!, cucumbers, courgettes, squash, lettuce and much more, plus herbs.
There’ll be all sorts of perennials for your garden too: plants that come back every year.
Watch out for posters round the village and posts on Facebook, etc, but get that date in your diaries and set the alarm, because the early grower really will get the best choice! Opens 9am till 11.00 on Saturday 10th May, Memorial Hall car park or in the Scout Hall if it’s wet.

If you have any of your own plants to spare for us to sell, please bring them along to the Scout Hall on Friday 9th May at 2.30, or EARLY on Saturday morning. There’ll be someone there to receive them from about 8 am. Thank you in advance! We’ll be very grateful for your support, as this is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

WE’RE MAKING A GARDEN: Thanks to all that came to my talk about our garden at Colkins Mill Church on 15th April. As you could no doubt tell I was a tad nervous at the start, but you were a brilliant audience and I really enjoyed myself! Hopefully we’ve inspired a few of you to realise your own gardening dreams…

Also, many, many thanks to those who came to our sunny Open Garden last weekend. It was good to see so many of you and we had just shy of 500 visitors, raising over £5,300 for the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) (entry and plants) and Mayfield Primary School (teas). Our next opening is 2nd and 3rd August for the Mayfield Trail: when there will be five different beautiful gardens around Mayfield for you to explore.
We had lots of people over the weekend ask ‘what is the National Garden Scheme all about?’ For the rest of the summer there will be a poster outside our gate at The Oast in Fletching Street which explains where all the money donated goes - in 2024 they distributed over £3.5 million to many different charities - just from people opening their 3,600 gardens in England and Wales! So thanks again, it’s really true that every penny matters.
